BLEACHING
Strong winter winds and scorching summer heat are enemies of complexion. Beauty-conscious women feel concerned over the ravages of the weather and seek timely help from beauticians. Bleaching helps regain the original face and helps in revitalising the paleness of skin due to heat or dryness. It also prevents the growth of facial hair. Generally, threading or waxing is advised as a remedial measure for removing unwanted hair.
Waxing produces wrinkles, and threading hardens the roots of the hair. However, bleaching colours the thin and fine hair and keeps the complexion fair by hiding this tiny hair.
Often, people complain of defective bleaching at home. In an attempt to bleach their face themselves, they have disfigured themselves. Bleaching requires an efficient knowledge of the ratio and proportion of the powder and other ingredients. A separate mixture is needed for different persons. A disproportionate combination can harm the skin and cause an allergy to bleaching or scorching the skin, making it smudgy. Therefore, it is better to get one’s first bleaching done by an expert beautician. Later, on learning the technique, one may do it herself. But, it is better to use a little mixture of sensitive skin on the lower side of the neck to test its effect. If there is a minor irritation, you should not worry. But if the burning is sharp, discontinue the use.
Deep cleansing must be done before bleaching. Clean your face and neck with a wet cotton swab to remove all make-up. Eye makeup should be removed by soaking cotton wool swabs in rose water. Apply bleaching cream on your face and neck with a brush or cotton wool swab. If there is a mild burning sensation, go ahead without worrying about it, but if the sting is hard, remove the cream immediately. A test of five minutes duration is enough.
Bleach your neck also along with your face; otherwise, there will be a marked difference in the colour of your face and neck. Avoid eyes and eyelashes. Cover eyes with cotton balls soaked in rose water to prevent the paste from flowing in. Do not bleach if you have pimples or acne. Allow the pack to remain for 10 minutes, then wash off. Dry the skin and apply cold cream on the face and neck, massaging lightly. The use of a good astringent lotion can relieve minor burning sensations. Sometimes small red rashes may appear after the paste is washed off. However, this is not serious. So do not panic. These rashes will disappear on their own after a while.
Bleaching paste can be made by the following method. Put one spoonful of bleaching powder in a bottle and add half a of hydrogen peroxide. Put two or four drops of ammonia in it, and mix well using a cotton swab or a brush. Close the lid immediately.
