HOW DO I CHANGE MY BABY’S NAPPY?

When changing a nappy, get everything ready beforehand. Keep all the essential equipment handy in a changing bag, either to use at home or to take with you when you go out. Use baby wipes if warm water and cotton wool are not an option.

CHANGING A NAPPY

What Equipment Do I Need?
• Changing mat

• Cotton wool

• Lukewarm water

• Towel (optional)

• Barrier cream

• Clean nappy

• Undo the dirty nappy. Hold your baby’s legs up and gently wipe away any stools with the front of the nappy. Roll the nappy up from the front and put it to one side.

HOW DO I CHANGE MY BABY’S NAPPY?

• Holding the legs up, clean your baby’s bottom with cotton wool dipped in lukewarm water. If your baby is a boy (above left), pay particular attention to the fold between the scrotum and thigh. Wipe under the scrotum too. There is no need to clean under the foreskin. For girls (above right), wipe from front to back.

• Dry the area with a towel or cotton wool. Put a fresh nappy under the bottom. Apply a thin layer of barrier cream. Close the nappy.
